Experience

Jeremy’s experience includes:

Administrative & regulatory law

  • advising a range of Commonwealth agencies in appeals of administrative decisions before the Administrative Review Tribunal and Federal Court
  • representing a Commonwealth regulator in a Federal Court challenge to a legislative instrument on grounds the instrument was unreasonable, irrational and not reasonably proportionate to the relevant risks
  • acting for a Commonwealth regulator in an interlocutory application to stay the operation of an urgent legislative order to restrict news reporting during civil unrest
  • standardising and optimising systems to manage portfolios of appeals.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

  • acting for a range of government agencies in civil proceedings in Federal and State Courts, typically involving novel duties of care
  • acting in proceedings involving allegations of loss caused by the use of, and exposure to, a range of toxic substances, including asbestos, silica, lead dust, coal dust and mold
  • representing medical practitioners in disciplinary proceedings before civil and administrative tribunals
  • acting in professional liability proceedings against legal practitioners, medical practitioners, architects, agronomists, accountants and financial advisers
  • managing multi-party proportionate liability disputes concerning property and business losses caused by fire
  • acting in a range of coronial inquests, including involving deaths caused by the prescription of opiate medications, the misdiagnosis of malignant conditions, and the incidence of suicide at Canberra Hospital
  • acting for a range of Commonwealth agencies in proceedings brought by self-represented litigants
  • managing portfolios of claims for government and corporate clients.
