Ryan Branch is an experienced litigation lawyer, with a particular focus on public law litigation. He has experience in both regulatory and national security matters, as well as general commercial litigation. Much of Ryan’s experience has involved acting for Commonwealth Government clients in technically complex disputes and investigations.

Experience

Ryan’s experience includes:

  • acting for the Department of Home Affairs and Attorney General’s Department on applications for public interest immunity (PII) in large, multi-defendant criminal proceedings
  • advising the Australian Securities and Investments Commission on responding to applications for judicial review filed by defendants in the Supreme Court of Queensland with respect to purported decisions in committal proceedings
  • acting for the Attorney-General’s Department in bringing applications for both an interim supervision order and subsequently an extended supervision order pursuant to the Commonwealth Criminal Code against a person convicted of a terrorism offence
  • acting for the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency in both disciplinary and prosecution matters regarding health practitioners
  • acting for the Australian Federal Police in preparing an application for PII in response to a subpoena issued in a criminal trial in the Supreme Court of Queensland
  • successfully sought an interlocutory application to recognise the foreign law merger of a Dutch B.V. corporation with a Luxembourg S.a.r.l. for the purposes of transferring income tax appeal rights pursuant to Part IVC of the Taxation Administration Act 1953 (Cth).
