Expertise

Rachele is a member of the Dispute Resolution and Litigation group in Melbourne. She has expertise in large-scale regulatory investigations and litigation, with a particular focus on financial services and anti-money laundering investigations and disputes. 

Rachele has been involved in a variety of regulatory matters involving ASIC and AUSTRAC.  She has also worked on large scale inquiries, such as the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry, and general commercial disputes involving breaches of contract.

Rachele’s areas of practice include:

  • Corporations law: ASIC investigations, directors’ duties, financial services, whistleblowing 
  • anti-money laundering: AUSTRAC investigations and litigation  
  • Royal Commissions
  • general commercial disputes: large scale litigation, contract disputes.

Experience

Since being admitted to practice, Rachele has been involved in a number of high profile proceedings, including:

  • acting for ASIC in various regulatory investigations and civil penalty proceedings, including ASIC v Westpac Securities Administration Limited [2018] FCA 2078 
  • this matter was a complex dispute regarding the distinction between personal and general financial product advice 
  • acting for a bank in relation to a discrimination claim brought by a former customer
  • acting for Crown Casino in the Royal Commission into the Casino Operator and License
  • acting for various entities investigated by AUSTRAC in relation to breaches of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth).
