National law firm Holding Redlich has begun a major pilot of Cicero, an AI litigation platform developed by Australian legal-tech company Automatise. The pilot follows a successful trial in selected matters earlier this year and will initially run across key practice groups, including Dispute Resolution & Litigation, Workplace Relations & Safety, and Construction, Infrastructure & Projects. The rollout spans the firm’s Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra offices.
Holding Redlich’s Chief Information Officer, Damian Della Gatta, says the decision to collaborate with Automatise reflects the firm’s commitment to practical, outcome-driven innovation.

Cicero was developed by Automatise specifically for litigation workflows and evidence-heavy matters. Its capabilities are designed to help legal teams handle large document sets efficiently while ensuring forensic defensibility and auditability.
Among its key features, Cicero offers automated document parsing and optical character recognition (OCR), which converts mixed file types into searchable text and splits large bundles into cleanly tagged documents. It also includes objective coding and smart summaries that capture essential metadata and generate concise 50 to 100 word overviews, helping teams triage large volumes of material efficiently. The platform supports natural-language fact investigations, allowing lawyers to ask questions and receive pinpoint answers defensibly linked to source extracts to enhance the accuracy of evidence reviews. Additionally, its on-demand chronologies enable users to build detailed timelines along chosen tracks in minutes, rather than days.

The pilot will run over the next two months, monitored by a joint evaluation team, which will assess the impact of Cicero across several metrics such as document throughput, turnaround times for legal advice and overall lawyer satisfaction.
