William Madani


William is an experienced senior legal practitioner with a successful history in disputes and litigation. With over thirteen years’ experience in Australia and the United Kingdom, he excels at providing litigation and legal advisory work for both domestic and international corporate clients within the financial services sector.


William’s recent experience includes:

  • acting for accountants, auditors, financial planners and insurance brokers in a broad range of claims in negligence, fraud, contractual disputes and alleged breaches of trust
  • acting for directors in litigation brought by shareholders or ASIC
  • acting for high net worth individuals, including foreign nationals arising from disputes relating to failed investments in Australia
  • acting for domestic insurers and various London underwriters for the purpose of providing complex indemnity advice and/or in financial lines and construction indemnity disputes
  • acting for barristers in negligence claims
  • acting for structural and geotechnical engineers in complex, multi-party construction disputes
  • acting for individuals and corporations in litigated commercial disputes and providing advisory work
  • acting for large retail and investment banks in litigated and regulatory disputes and remediation programs, including:
    • enforcement investigations brought by the Financial Conduct Authority (UK equivalent of ASIC)
    • internal investigations into a variety of alleged poor practices, including forex pricing practices, potential sanctions breaches, unauthorised trading interventions, culture and compliance
    • remediation programs, including strategic planning and execution. This also included the assessment of loss suffered by customers
    • litigated and non-litigated disputes on behalf of numerous banks in respect of regulated and non-regulated financial products; including enforcement of contractual terms relating to loan agreements against multi-national entities, disputes arising from the sale of derivatives and enforcement of international judgments against assets in the UK.
