Tony joined Holding Redlich in October 2007 after spending over 20 years working in the construction industry, most recently for Veolia Water Australia, where he was directly involved in the delivery and operation of various municipal water treatment plants including the Sydney and Gold Coast desalination projects. Tony is also a qualified civil engineer and project manager with many years of hands on experience in infrastructure projects.

Experience

Tony has experience in a number of industry sectors including civil construction, petrochemical and water projects. He also has several years’ experience in arranging project insurances.

Tony has a wealth of experience in drafting and advising on construction contracts and all aspects of project delivery from start to finish.
He has the distinct advantage of being dual qualified as both a lawyer and a civil engineer.

Having worked for more than 20 years in the construction industry, he not only has a solid understanding of the key legal issues involved but also an exceptional awareness of the commercial realities of construction and infrastructure projects. Tony’s public and private sector clients appreciate the clear and practical legal advice that he is able to provide as a result.

Having worked in the field of civil contracting and advised several Councils, he is very familiar with the challenges faced by local government authorities. He has an in-depth knowledge of a variety of construction projects including building works, civil construction, petrochemical infrastructure, roadworks, drainage, water and wastewater treatment plants and bridgeworks.

Tony’s relevant experience includes:

  • City of Sydney - providing commercial facilitator services to City of Sydney in respect of its Gunyama Park Aquatic Centre project being procured through ECI
  • City of Sydney - advised on and edited the Principal Project Requirements for the City of Sydney for Gunyama Park Aquatic Centre project
  • Moree Plains Shire Council – drafting a construction contract based on an amended AS4000 -1997
  • Barangaroo Delivery Authority – drafting of a supply and installation agreement for the procurement of specialized equipment
  • advising Waverly and Woollahra Councils on construction contract administration issues
  • preparing the design and construct contract for the design, construction and commissioning of three water filtration plants in Victoria
  • preparing the design, build operate and maintain contract for a water treatment plant in far North Qld
  • acting for a contractor reviewing and negotiating the terms of various agreements for dewatering and decontamination of groundwater at Barangaroo
  • acting for a contractor reviewing and negotiating the terms of various contracts for the decontamination of groundwater at various Department of Defence sites
  • Tony regularly assists clients in the handling of claims under the Security of Payment Act and regularly conducts training for clients in the operation of the Act
  • Tony’s security of payment act experience spans over 10 years and includes:
    • acting for principals defending claims made under the Act
    • acting for contractors defending subcontractor claims made under the Act.
