Melanie is a senior associate in the transport, shipping and logistics team. Melanie advises clients in the shipping, logistics, road transport, commodities and offshore sectors on contentious and non-contentious matters.

Melanie is listed in the 2023 and 2024 edition of Doyle’s Guide as a Rising Star Lawyer for Australian Transport Law.

Experience

Melanie has particular expertise in commercial and regulatory advice and disputes relating to domestic and international trade and transport. Her experience includes:

• assisting with the representation of a ship owner and carrier in the Federal Court in relation to proceedings arising from a dispute relating to alleged damage to cargo during a voyage from Ireland to Australia
• assisting with the representation of an international transport services and equipment provider in the NSW Supreme Court in relation to proceedings arising from a dispute about the existence of an alleged commission agreement
• assisting a grain export company with a claim against one of Australia’s largest integrated logistics providers for breach of contract 
• assisting an international shipping and container transportation company resolve multiple proceedings arising out of an incident involving three vessels in an Australian port
• assisting insurance providers with transport related insurance claims
• admiralty claims including ship arrests and judicial sales  
• registration and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards
• drafting and advising on various shipping and transport related contracts.
