Expertise

With nearly two decades experience in employment and industrial law, Louise is a trusted advisor to Australian employers, especially when navigating complex workplace challenges. She delivers clear, strategic and commercially focused advice across all stages of the employment life cycle.

Louise is deeply experienced in matters arising under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) – from enterprise bargaining and industrial action, to transfer of business, redundancy, interpretation of industrial instruments and termination-related litigation. Louise regularly appears in the Fair Work Commission and Federal Court in relation to these issues and has secured successful outcomes for clients in a number of important cases.

Louise’s understanding of the Fair Work Act is both technical and tactical. Louise advises employers on compliance with national workplace laws, managing litigation risk and developing proactive strategies to avoid disputes.

Beyond the national workplace laws, Louise has significant experience advising on the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (Qld) and public sector employment legislation in Queensland, particularly in the health sector.

Louise also holds a particular interest assisting employers with workers’ compensation claims. This includes making submissions to WorkCover Queensland around the acceptance or rejection of a claim and managing associated work health and safety risks. Louise is especially interested in claims for psychological injuries arising out of reasonable management action, with Louise having demonstrated success defending these types of claims for employers.

Beyond pure workplace issues, Louise is experienced in advising on employer obligations under State and Federal anti-discrimination laws. This includes a business’s obligations both as an employer and a service provider.

Louise has been listed in reviewed Best Lawyers for Labour & Employment Law since 2020.
