Julia is a Senior Associate with experience in a broad scope of workplace relations, safety and employment matters. Julia has assisted a wide range of employer businesses, organisations and agencies in navigating complex legal challenges.   

Experience

Julia’s experience includes:

  • counsel on undertaking enterprise bargaining including responding to industrial action notices, drafting enterprise agreements and preparing enterprise agreements for approval
  • advising on termination of employment issues
  • assisting with disciplinary and performance matters
  • advising on compliance with statutory updates including under modern awards and the Fair Work Act 2009 amongst other employment-related legislation
  • assisting with Fair Work Commission matters, including unfair dismissals and general protections claims at both the Commission level and in the Federal Circuit and Family Court
  • assisting with employment matters and contract disputes, including restraints of trade in the Supreme Court of NSW
  • advising on employment-related aspects of corporate transactions and restructures including the transfer of business matters
  • reviewing and drafting employment contracts, contractor agreements, workplace policies and procedures, deeds of release and letters of termination
  • counsel on work health and safety matters, including assisting employers throughout SafeWork prosecutions.

No clause, no comfort: Court reinforces implied notice obligations for employers

A recent Federal Court decision reminds employers that section 117 of the Fair Work Act prescribes the minimum notice period but does not confer a right to terminate. Instead, that right should be expressly set out in the employment contract or otherwise there is a risk that reasonable notice will be implied.
