Kate practises in construction and infrastructure law, with broad experience across the commercial infrastructure and government sectors.

She advises on matters ranging from residential construction issues to complex, large-scale civil infrastructure disputes. Her dispute resolution experience includes acting for major multinational infrastructure and engineering companies and extensively advising and representing the Queensland Building and Construction Commission in regulatory matters.

Kate’s practical and strategic approach enables her to help clients navigate legal risks and effectively resolve disputes at all stages of the project lifecycle.

Experience

Kate’s experience includes the following:

  • acting as part of a team representing a major party involved in one of the largest commercial construction litigations before the Queensland Supreme Court regarding allegations of defective works
  • acting for the Australian subsidiary of a European-based modular and infrastructure company in a contract dispute concerning breach of services and loss of opportunity (including advising on risk and prospects, instructing Counsel, and preparing court documents)
  • acting for the same Australian subsidiary to recover rectification costs associated with the defective design and construction of netball courts at a government-funded sports facility
  • advising a leading Australian insulation manufacturer and distributor in relation to defective materials imported from China
  • acting for a civil and environmental engineering contractor in an adjudication related to delays suffered during the green-capping of an industrial waste site
  • advising and acting for a civil contractor in a dispute regarding the failure of a retaining wall  at a commercial housing development
  • advising Defence Housing Australia on compliance obligations and liability concerning property care responsibilities
  • providing contractual advice to small and mid-sized commercial builders on key contractual procedures including payment claims and schedules, dispute resolution, and contract termination
  • acting for the Queensland Building and Construction Commission in a range of matters including debt recovery and review proceedings, with responsibilities spanning tribunal appearances, conference representation, and providing detailed strategic advice on risk and dispute resolution
  • preparing urgent stay applications on behalf of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission in relation to licensing disputes.
