Jin Bae

Jin Bae is a construction lawyer with extensive experience advising on large-scale, complex and high-value infrastructure and commercial projects across all stages of the project lifecycle, from tender preparation to post-completion dispute resolution. Her expertise spans contract review, negotiation, claims management, dispute resolution, and procurement for major projects. 

Prior to joining Holding Redlich, Jin was part of the Construction and Major Projects team in Auckland, New Zealand where she handled both transactional (project advisory) and dispute resolution matters. Before transitioning to private practice, she worked as in-house counsel at Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd handling legal aspects of large-scale International projects, including EPC turnkey, Design and Build, and Build only projects. She is highly experienced in international construction contracts including FIDIC, NEC, JCT and NZS contracts.

Experience

Jin’s experience includes:

  • advising on tender documents and negotiating contracts for civil/infrastructure works, earthworks, buildings and plant works, including residential buildings, mixed-use properties (combined residential and commercial), high-rise buildings, hospitals, residential property developments, demolitions, ports/wharves, highways, bridges, tunnels, transmission lines, power plants, and wastewater treatment plant
  • drafting and advising on multi-party agreements essential for construction projects, including consortium agreements, joint venture agreements, consultancy agreements, supply agreements, subcontract agreements, direct agreements and settlement agreements
  • providing strategic legal advice on construction claims and disputes including entitlement claims for extension of time, additional costs due to variations, force majeure, changes in laws (including COVID-19 lockdown impacts), and other risk allocation issues
  • representing and advising contractors in payment adjudications for major projects in New Zealand and Singapore
  • acting for principals and contractors in arbitration cases involving disputes over contract performance, delay claims, cost entitlements, suspension rights, and termination issues
  • assisting with litigation on claims related to breach of contract, bank guarantee, insurance and injunctions.
