Christie has experience in advising public and private clients on all aspects of the employment relationship, from onboarding, workplace disputes, investigations, disciplinary processes, employment management and litigation.

Employee management

  • discipline processes, including drafting show cause documentation 
  • managing employee poor performance and conduct (including bullying and sexual harassment) 
  • managing employee illness and absenteeism, independent medical examination processes and ill health retirement
  • employment contracts, consultancy and contractor agreements 
  • workplace policies and procedures (including State and Commonwealth whistleblower legislation)
  • workplace drug and alcohol management
  • compliance, interpretation and enforcement of awards and enterprise agreements 
  • termination of employment
  • protection of confidential information and restraints
  • work health and safety.

Litigation

Litigation

  • representing employers in unfair dismissal, adverse action claims, underpayment, discrimination, unprotected industrial action claims
  • defending the State in complaints of discrimination, victimisation, public interest disclosure reprisal, sexual harassment, human rights breaches, and public service appeals
  • appearing for employers at conciliation conferences in the Queensland Human Rights Commission, Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, and Fair Work Commission
  • instructing Counsel at trials for discrimination, adverse action, unpaid wages, unfair dismissal, victimisation, equitable claims and public interest disclosure reprisal matters in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Industrial Court of Queensland, Fair Work Commission, Federal Circuit Court and Supreme Court 
  • representing the State in public service appeals and disputes.

Industrial relations

  • assisting employers in bargaining processes, including drafting logs of claims, clauses for inclusion in bargaining agreements, applications for scope orders,  bargaining orders, applications to stop industrial action, applications for certification of enterprise agreements and arbitration of disputes relating to proposed instruments 
  • advice relating to interpretation of industrial instruments and associated litigation
  • acting for employers in reviews of modern awards.
