Arthur Paras


Arthur is a Senior Associate in our Property & Real Estate group. He acts for large national landlords and tenants, including government, super funds and charitable organisations, specialising in retail, commercial and industrial leasing. Arthur’s expertise includes work on urban renewal projects and shopping centre redevelopments. Arthur is well known for his considered drafting and advice, a pragmatic approach to negotiations and his ability to efficiently manage high volume transaction work, and has presented retail seminars and CPD training. 


Arthur’s experience and major clients include: 

  • Lendlease: premium-grade office and retail leasing work at Barangaroo and Darling Square urban renewal projects, Erina Fair, Macarthur Square and various other office and industrial sites. Precedent document work, volume transactions and advice on a full range of leasing transactions, from complex agreements to lease to the relocation of tenancies and car park leases, negotiating with major retail and commercial tenants including Coles, Woolworths, Hoyts, ICBC and Origin Energy
  • Brookfield: Drafting, advising and negotiating complex agreements for lease, leases and deeds for the Brookfield Place redevelopment
  • The Salvation Army: landlord and tenant, retail and office, leasing work across large portfolio
  • HomeCo: landlord leasing work across fast-expanding portfolio large format retail centres
  • ISPT: full array of landlord leasing work for shopping centres and premium office towers within a $16b portfolio
  • Aventus: advising on the National Code of Conduct for commercial leases, developing precedents and drafting high volume COVID-19 related rent assistance deeds across its national portfolio of large format retail centres
  • QIC: retail and office leasing work, including redevelopment work, at Castle Hill Towers and Westpoint Shopping Centre
  • Carriageworks: advising the Minister of the Arts in negotiating and finalising the heads of an agreement while the tenant was still under administration, and drafting associated sublease for the heritage site at Eveleigh Railway Workshops. Carriageworks is the largest multi-arts centre in Australia
  • Hoyts: drafting and negotiating complex agreement for lease, incentive deed and deed of release for Hoyts Cinema Complex at Erina Fair with the addition of two cinema screens during centre redevelopment
  • Visy: drafting and negotiating major lease deal between Lendlease and Visy Industries for industrial premises at Alexandria
  • AQR: negotiating commercial office leases in Sydney and Brisbane for global investment management firm as tenant. 

Prior to commencing his legal career, Arthur was self-employed in the hospitality industry for approximately 13 years. During this period, he owned and operated 5 cafe businesses within the CBD and outer suburbs. This small business background has equipped him with unique commercial insights in the retail industry.
