Alexandra Ottens


Alexandra is a senior associate in the Dispute Resolution and Litigation practice group. Alexandra’s areas of expertise include property disputes, retail and commercial leasing disputes, complex commercial and contractual disputes, international arbitration and intellectual property.


Alexandra has acted for a wide range of clients in various sectors including mining and resources, manufacturing, retail, technology, property and corporate. She has represented clients in both state and federal jurisdictions.

Her recent experience includes:

Corporate and Commercial

  • defending Federal Court proceedings against the manufacturer of industrial machinery and its director against claims for negligent design and manufacture, breach of contract and misleading and deceptive conduct
  • acting for liquidators in Federal Court proceedings arising out of a liquidation.


  • acting for a Queensland mining company in proceedings for compensation in the Land Court
  • acting for parties in a complex dispute arising out of a mining joint venture
  • acting for a Queensland mining company in a contractual dispute with a government owned corporation.

Intellectual property, technology and communications

  • acting for an Australian bank in Federal Court proceedings for breach of a trademark
  • acting for a Chinese company in an international arbitration conducted in accordance with the rules of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre
  • acting for a corporate client in the Supreme Court of Queensland defending a claim for breach of contract and breach of copyright arising out of an IT licensing agreement
  • acting on behalf of a plaintiff in defamation proceedings in the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Property and leasing

  • acting for a large franchisor in a retail lease dispute
  • acting for a commercial tenant in the District Court of Queensland defending a claim for damages for breach of a lease arising out of termination of the lease
  • acting for a land owner in a fraud case against various mortgagors
  • advising retail landlords on a variety of issues arising under retail shop leases, including claims for compensation under the Retail Shop Leases Act, collecting amounts owing under a lease, breach of lease and termination of leases.
